Tangier, or the meeting of vernacular society and the globalized city : irreducibility of the link to the land

In the context of the metropolitan changeover that the city of Tangier is experiencing, the pirate garden embodies one of the last improvised relationships to nature in the city. Testifying to both the re-actualization of vernacular knowledge and invention, these gardens question the classification of food or ornamental because they propose a total garden. They are the emerging face of the link to the earth that persists in the globalized city. Informal, freed from space and the notion of private property, they result from a common idea, but are individual and outside of any collective approach.
