Make the valley green again : la gestion des sols pollués au cœur de la réhabilitation de la basse vallée de Swansea (Pays de Galles).

Abstract : This study deals with the subject of the soil pollution management during the reclamation process of a former industrial valley in the borough of Swansea (Wales). Known as the Lower Swansea valley project and started in the 1960s, this process has enhanced the scientific knowledge on soil pollution which has been addressed in a pragmatic way to allow the redevelopment of the valley. More than a sanitary issue, these pollutions has been a landscape problem as revegetation is seen as a central element to regain the attractiveness of the site. In this case study, the pollution management also raises questions on the resiliency dimension of the process and its apparent success.
